What do I think so far?

I have to say I like what I’ve experienced so far. The short high-intensity workouts works for me and is a huge time saver. I haven’t seen any “red flags” yet.  However, it’s not some ”quick-fix” fat-loss miracle that allows you to be lazy. Let’s be real.

OK, I agree, that’s a silly question.  Of course you would!

So if you somehow manage to finish this entire article, a near miracle in today’s world of information overload, you’ll be able to do just that! Now this may come as a shock, but I have found that the number one form of exercise for fat loss is high intensity resistance training.

Yeah, not what you’ll hear from lots of fat loss and fitness “gurus” right?  Well, I can tell you nothing creates a faster resting metabolism or requires more stored energy (read this as ‘fat’!) than building some good old quality lean muscle.

Man or woman.  Young or old.

And just so you know I’m not some kook spewing a bunch of lies, you’ll be happy to learn that I personally used a certain form of metabolic resistance training to lose over 42 pounds of fat and have kept it off for the last 3 years.

Not enough?  OK, well, I did that without 1 minute of separate cardio…not one! And my wife did the same, but actually lost even more fat…nearly 60 pounds and she also dropped 8 dress sizes in the span of about 6 months.

Why do we care so much about strength?

Outside of the obvious reasons, strength leads to muscle growth, which leads to a faster resting metabolism (as we discussed earlier), which leads to faster fat loss and various other improved health factors.

Is your exercise routine preventing you from burning fat?

The majority of exercisers today still rely on long duration moderate paced aerobic exercise as their primary routine for burning fat.  But recent studies have shown that this is a big, I mean big mistake.  In fact, you could say that the whole aerobics explosion of a few decades past was one of the biggest mistakes in the health and fitness industry.  Why?

There are several reasons, but I’ll focus on the two main issues here.  When you exercise at a moderate pace for extended periods of time (as in the typically recommended percent of your target heart rate), your body is burning fat during the exercise.  While this may sound good, it’s actually not if you want to lose inches off your waist.

This sends a signal to your body to keep a certain amount of stored fat available for your next workout.  You’re essentially telling it that it needs fat available to burn, ‘because you’ll be doing this exercise again.  So while we may be burning some calories during this exercise, after the exercise is over, our body begins storing up some fat for the next workout.  Obviously not what we’re looking for in terms of maximum ability to burn fat fast.

The other big concern with moderately paced aerobic exercise performed several times per week is that you are working only within your existing aerobic limits, without improving your aerobic capacity.

This is important because your aerobic capacity is what determines how your body responds in times of physical, emotional, and mental stress.  If you reduce your capacity for work, as you do in this type of exercise, you’re reducing your long term health, not to mention a poor chance of burning fat.

The good news is, you can reverse these effects by instead focusing your workouts on high intensity resistance training, with workouts that last 15-20 minutes on average, and can only be performed 2-3 times per week.

These workouts will burn carbohydrates instead of fat during the workout, and will cause your body to use its fat stores to replenish the burned carbs over the next 24 hours, after the workout is done!  This type of work will also increase your reserve capacity and thus your ability to handle all types of stress, leading to lasting health and fitness…and 24/7 fat burning.  Nice!

Can this really help you lose fat? Can you really lose inches off your waist? From my experience – YES.  But, it requires your effort and dedication. I’m not going to promise that you will get results like me.
